Marsy's Law for Kentucky

As someone who has spent my legal career protecting those from assault and abuse, I am proud to support Marsy’s Law along with the entire Louisville Metro Council.

Family & Children’s Place strongly supports Marsy’s Law because we’ve seen that many who have been injured believe the justice system is against them.

Marsy’s Law will help victims and their families feel more satisfied with the response of the justice system.

When I picture lady justice, I see strength, fairness and balance. In reality, the scales of justice have teetered, to the detriment of the truly innocent – the victims. Marsy’s Law will help restore some measure of fairness.

Had Marsy’s Law been in place, my dignity and safety would have been taken into consideration and I would have been permitted to stand before the court at the plea hearing and heard by the court.

Marsy’s Law provides access, accountability, protections for victims without altering any of the rights that are available to the defendants in a criminal case.

Marsy's Law for Kentucky would force awareness of the very real needs of Kentucky's crime victim population. Awareness is the first step towards change. Marsy's Law for Kentucky is a very large step in the right direction to vastly reduce secondary victimization while increasing the safety of crime victims.

Marsy’s Law is a constitutional amendment that will accomplish something I think most Kentuckians believe is already commonplace – ensuring every victim, no matter their demographic or jurisdiction, are equally protected and supported as they navigate the criminal justice system.

The voices of victims’ families deserve to be heard and respected throughout the criminal justice process. This is why I support Marsy’s Law for Kentucky.
