Marsy’s Law heads back to Kentucky ballots

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Kentucky’s lawmakers voted to put Marsy’s Law back on the ballot in November’s election.

Because the law would change the state’s constitution, it requires Kentucky’s voters to approve the legislation as a ballot measure.

Kentuckians voted in favor of the measure in 2018, yet the state’s Supreme Court ruled the law could not be enacted because the full text of the law was not printed on the ballot for voters to read before voting.

If voters approve the amendment once again, Marsy’s Law would require those who are victims of criminal acts to be notified of any court actions, including when a person convicted of a crime is pardoned.

April Fulcher, the Bowling Green Police Department’s Victim Advocate, says voters have a responsibility to become familiar with the amendment.
