STATEMENTS: Marsy's Law Passes House Committee

FRANKFORT, Ky. (March 19, 2020) — Marsy's Law for Kentucky released the following statements regarding today’s successful passage of Senate Bill 15 out of the House Elections, Constitutional Amendments and Intergovernmental Affairs Committee:

“Thank you to the members of the House Elections, Constitutional Amendments and Intergovernmental Affairs Committee for advancing SB 15 on behalf of crime victims and advocates across the Commonwealth. Crime victims and their loved ones are counting on us to put Marsy’s Law back on the ballot for Kentucky voters in November. I encourage our House of Representatives to pass SB 15, just as they did in 2018 (by a bipartisan 87-3 affirmative vote), and take a stand for tens of thousands of Kentuckians who do not currently have constitutionally guaranteed rights.”

– Sen. Whitney Westerfield

“In this time of uncertainty, we are grateful that Kentucky legislators have taken another significant step toward granting certainty and peace of mind to crime victims across the Commonwealth. Marsy’s Law would finally guarantee vital constitutional protections for individuals and families whose lives have been turned upside down — providing them a much-needed voice in our criminal justice system. We look forward to the full House of Representatives passing SB 15, to place Marsy’s Law back on the ballot for Kentucky voters in 2020.”
