STATEMENTS: Marsy's Law Passes Senate

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Feb. 25, 2020) — Marsy's Law for Kentucky released the following statements today regarding the state Senate’s passage of Senate Bill 15, by a vote of 31 - 6:

“I am grateful to my Senate colleagues who joined me today in overwhelmingly passing Marsy’s Law for Kentucky — taking a stand on behalf of crime victims and advocates across the Commonwealth. Now, we encourage members of our House of Representatives to follow suit in once again passing Marsy’s Law, just as they did in 2018 (by an 87-3 affirmative vote). Thanks to strong, bipartisan support statewide, we are moving ever closer to the day when Marsy’s Law will ensure vital constitutional protections for all Kentucky crime victims.” – Sen. Whitney Westerfield

“Crime victims and their advocates are celebrating today’s overwhelming Senate passage of SB 15, as momentum continues to build toward guaranteeing victims a voice in our state’s criminal justice system. Because of the strong, steady support by legislative leaders and community advocates in every corner of the Commonwealth, we are on track to put Marsy’s Law back on the ballot for Kentucky voters in 2020! Crime victims and their loved ones are counting on all of us, and we look forward to one day soon being able to empower them with the constitutionally protected rights they desire and deserve.” – Marsy’s Law for Kentucky
